🚨 SHOCKING! Trump’s Tariff Plan BLOCKED by Court! What Happens Now?
😮 Big news! A U.S. court has stopped former President Donald Trump's plan to add big taxes, called tariffs, on goods from other countries. Let's find out what happened!
🧑⚖️ What Did the Court Say?
The Court of International Trade said Trump went too far. He wanted to use a special law, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), to put tariffs on many countries. But the court said this law doesn't let a president do that without Congress.
“The president exceeded any authority,” the court stated.
📜 What Is the IEEPA?
IEEPA is a law from 1977. It lets the president act during emergencies. But the court said trade deficits are not an emergency. So, Trump couldn't use this law to add tariffs.
⚖️ Who Challenged the Tariffs?
Many people and groups didn't like the tariffs. Small business owners, like Victor and Chloe Schwartz, said the tariffs hurt their importing business. States and legal groups also filed lawsuits.
- Liberty Justice Center
- 12 Democratic state attorneys general
- Small business owners
🌍 Which Countries Were Affected?
Trump's plan was called "Liberation Day" tariffs. He wanted to add a 10% tax on most imports and higher taxes on goods from countries with big trade surpluses, like:
- China
- European Union
- Canada
- Mexico
He also wanted a 25% "Fentanyl tariff" to stop drug trafficking.
📈 How Did Markets React?
After the court's decision, stock markets went up. Investors were happy because they thought the tariffs would hurt the economy.
- Major stock futures rose sharply
- Market sentiment improved
🗣️ What Did the White House Say?
The White House didn't agree with the court. They said the tariffs were needed to protect American workers and would appeal the decision.
“It is not for unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency,” said White House deputy press secretary Kush Desai.

Whoa This is a major check on presidential power! Whether you support Trump or not, it’s clear the courts are drawing a line on how far emergency powers can go especially when it comes to the economy. Interesting to see small businesses and even states fighting back. The global trade impact of those tariffs would've been huge. Can’t wait to see how this plays out on appeal will Congress step in next?
